Destination: Miami

THE MAGIC CITY

With arguably the most famous skyline in the world, Miami offers yachts along its coast a unique view of massive skyscrapers and modern architecture. There is no better place to enjoy a quintessential orange sunset than the sun deck of a superyacht in Miami.Over the past two decades, Miami has developed into a metropolis with a trendy art, fashion, and gastronomy scene. The winter edition of the famous Art Basel, held since 2002, is known as the world’s premier art fair.

On top of that, there’s a new gallery scene in the design district and a restaurant scene that can compete even with Paris. For cocktail hour, head to the Philippe Starck-designed bar of the luxurious Faena Hotel. The multibillion-dollar complex by Argentine investor Alan Faena was crafted by star architects Rem Koolhaas and Norman Foster and has its own museum.

The offshore island of Miami Beach has preserved a fantastic quality since its beginnings: The tropical city was and remains something of a mirage from the time of Prohibition in the 1920s, when Al Capone personally smuggled illegal rum from Cuba and into his backroom casinos. Today, South Beach — the southern part of Miami Beach — is a never-ending party fueled by the glittering fashion world, which arrives every winter for photo shoots.

At night, the super-clubs LIV, Story, and Club Space are considered equal counterparts of the legendary house scene of Ibiza. Famous also are the lavish pool parties at the Nikki Beach and Hyde Beach clubs.

However, Miami’s newest showpiece is the Wynwood district. The former Puerto Rican ghetto north of downtown is now a booming hipster neighborhood akin to Williamsburg in New York or Venice in Los Angeles. The Wynwood Walls are decorated by top graffiti and street artists and are surrounded by stylish cafés and restaurants.

Miami's marinas are conveniently located, making it easy for charterers to reach the city's attractions. For larger superyachts, the Island Gardens Deep Harbour offers moorings for all types of yachts in the Magic City. From Miami, there are abundant possibilities for beautiful yacht trips, whether along the Intracoastal Waterway or to the nearby Bahamas with their white sandy beaches. The Caribbean sun warms the turquoise sea all year round, making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
